1) acute: subclinical-icteric-fulminant
- loss appetite, nausea, vomiting, jaundice, fever & abdominal pain
- most acutely-infected adults can recover
- however, some acutely-infected adults become chronically infected.
2) chronic: asymptomatic-chronic persistent- chronic active
- show no symptoms and no abnormalities in lab testing.
- others have chronically apparent chronic hepatitis
- some go on to develop cirrhosis
